“Martians for a while grow older . . .”

Who is your most influential writer? Who do you always go back to for inspiration?
Malcolm Lowry, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Borges, Kerouac, James Wright, Weldon Kees, William Stafford

What inspired your piece?
I saw a story about the Russian boy genius on the Web.

What do you want readers to take away from your piece?
We need to take care of ourselves, the Earth, the animals and plants.

What season do you find you write the most in?
Autumn and Winter are good times to write, Spring and Summer a little harder.

Do you find writing invigorating or exhausting?
Both, but good exhaustion, as after hard physical work.

What is your ideal writing environment?
Silence, a window with a view, privacy, the time to let the mind wander on its own.

Do you keep any snacks around while you write? If so, what’s your favorite?
No I don’t.

Do you ever create soundtracks for the piece you’re writing?
No, but a few poems of mine have been given sound tracks by online magazine editors.

Do you have any future writing plans?
I’ve been mostly writing poetry lately, but sometime would like to write a few more short stories.

You can read Nel Hanson’s piece in Issue Four of The Ginger Collect: Indigo Child.
