We normally try to publish our issues on the first day of a new season. It’s a new issue, a new season, new stories to enjoy. Spring is a big one for us, it means renewal and it’s the first issue of the new year. We can stretch our legs and enjoy warm weather and come out of our winter hibernation. Being writers and artists, we all struggle with seasonal depression and the winter months are always ridiculously hard for us.
This year, the winter months hit us harder than ever before. There are problems you can usually rise from and be fine, and then there are problems that knock you back so hard that you won’t be rising from them anytime soon, but you will…eventually. These are the problems we all faced this winter, as we collected pieces for Issue Nine. We each were faced with a change in environment, a change in relationships, a change in jobs. None were small tasks to achieve. Some are still being achieved. Some are still dealing with the repercussions of those problems, though they’re mostly dealt with.
Being writers and artists, we feel things a little too acutely sometimes. We take it on our shoulders and we carry it far too long, though we don’t need to. We make it our burden, we ruminate on our shortcomings, and we tell ourselves repeatedly “Don’t ever let this happen again.” Sometimes, though, you can’t help it and things get a little out of hand.
Issue Nine will be coming out 3/31/19 instead of 3/20/19. It’s not that big of a deal, it’s our first delay in the 2 years we’ve been a journal. But we want to be transparent about why there’s a delay. We’ve faithfully released our issue at the same time for the last 8 issues, so this feels like a big deal to us.
We think our readers will enjoy this issue just as much as the others. There’s just a bit of a longer wait.
